The Fish Factory supports “Catchbox“. Think responsible fishermen should be paid a fair price for their catch? We do and we hope you do too.
How it works:
Catchbox is a type of cooperative known as a “Community Supported Fishery”. They are a type of food buying group, working with small fishermen who use responsible methods, so that they can enjoy delicious, locally caught seafood with a clear conscience. They are a not-for-profit community co-op, completely run by unpaid volunteers.
They pay for a share of a fisherman’s catch and over a 10 to 12 week period get a regular supply of seafood, straight from him. They choose whether they want their fish whole on a weekly or fortnightly basis; enough for two or family size.
Although they won’t get to choose what fish they will be getting as it depends on what the fishermen catch that day, that’s all part of the fun! They can however guarantee that it will be fresh, local, responsibly sourced and utterly delicious.
Find out how it works in Brighton & Hove, Worthing and Chichester & Emsworth!
We at The Fish Factory have been doing our bit to help this worthwhile cause. We held a fish filleting class on Saturday 18 October at The Fish Factory, Worthing where one of our Executive Chefs, Stuart Slevin, showed about 10 volunteers from Catchbox how to fillet different types of fish and what knives to use. This is the second class we have held now for Catchbox at The Fish Factory, Worthing and it is proving to be very popular.
